Field note 02
Not by Just Anyone
Wanting sex does not mean wanting every applicant.
The Exchange
Me: Not interested.
Them: Why, you want fucked right?
Me: Not by just anyone.
The Diagnosis
This is entitlement pretending to be logic.
The argument is simple in their head: if you want sex, and they are offering sex, then your refusal must be hypocrisy. They cannot understand the missing variable because the missing variable is them.
Wanting sex does not mean wanting you.
That sentence should not need a priest, a courtroom, a committee, or a TED Talk. It should not require diagrams. It should not be treated like advanced philosophy. Desire is selective. That is the entire point of desire.
If I say I am hungry, that does not mean I want gas-station sushi from a man yelling in the parking lot. If I say I want touch, that does not mean any available hand becomes sacred. If I want sex, that does not mean the next person with a pulse and poor manners gets grandfathered in.
The Clown Math
Some men hear “I want sex” and translate it as “I have abandoned all taste, caution, standards, timing, mood, attraction, and self-respect.”
No.
The desire is real. The discernment is also real.
That is what gets them mad. They were not offended that sex exists. They were offended that sex could exist and still exclude them.
The Rule
Wanting sex does not mean wanting you.
The Deeper Cut
There is a special loneliness tax in maintaining standards when access is technically available but dignity is not.
People love to pretend the problem is scarcity. Sometimes it is not scarcity. Sometimes it is insult disguised as opportunity.
A bad offer is not abundance. A lazy offer is not connection. A body with no charm, no reciprocity, no care, and no sense of who is being invited into what is not a solution to loneliness. It is just loneliness with another person in the room.
And that might be worse.
The Dealbreaker Line
Not by just anyone. Four words. Whole constitution.
