The Diagnosis

This is one-way exposure dressed up as discretion.

Being DL can explain why someone is cautious. Fine. People have lives, jobs, families, fears, histories, reputations, closets, half-closets, glass closets, and weird little basement closets with biometric locks. I get caution.

What I do not get is pretending caution is a universal exemption from reciprocity.

You saw my face. You used my face to decide whether I was worth messaging. You got the benefit of my exposure, my risk, my visibility, my presentation. Then, when I ask for the same basic verification, suddenly you are a classified document with an erection.

No.

The Clown Math

The issue is not always the missing face.

Some of the best sex can happen without seeing someone’s face beforehand. Sometimes not even during. Mystery can be hot. Distance can be hot. A voice, a rhythm, a message with actual heat — that can carry a lot.

But mystery requires game.

Blank profile plus “hi” plus DL plus no pics plus no personality is not mystery. It is not intrigue. It is not masculine danger. It is an empty room asking for a key.

If you are going to hide your face, bring something else. Bring wit. Bring specificity. Bring confidence. Bring presence. Bring the kind of message that makes a face pic feel optional because the vibe already walked in wearing boots.

But if all you bring is “hi” and secrecy, do not act shocked when the door does not open.

The Deeper Cut

There is a difference between privacy and imbalance.

Privacy says, “I need caution.”

Imbalance says, “You carry the risk while I carry none.”

That second one is the problem. It is not discretion. It is outsourcing vulnerability. It is making someone else be visible while you stay safely hidden, then acting like they are unreasonable for noticing.

Self-protection is valid. So is mine.
