The Heterosexual Penis and the Clerical Error
Being the top does not make the sex straight. It only gives the paperwork a confident font.
The Exchange
Them: I'm not gay, I just get my dick sucked
Me: I'm, well, actually, I mean, seeing that I'm bottom, doesn't you sticking your dick in me make you more of the gay one?
The Diagnosis
This is sexuality by job-title laundering.
The man wants men, messages men, meets men, and has sex with men. But he believes the word “straight” survives the encounter as long as his penis keeps the correct administrative title.
Top.
Active.
Giving.
Management.
The other man is bottom, receptive, receiving, and therefore apparently responsible for all gayness generated on the premises.
It is not identity. It is subcontracting.
The Clown Math
The formula works like this:
Getting your dick sucked by a man: straight.
Putting your dick inside a man: also straight.
Choosing the man, arranging the meeting, arriving at the location, removing your clothes, and participating enthusiastically: still straight.
Being the man who receives either act: somehow gay enough for both people.
The arithmetic is elegant because every number has been replaced with masculinity.
The role does all the laundering. The top is imagined as active and therefore protected. The bottom is imagined as passive and therefore assigned the entire meaning of the encounter.

You are both in the meeting.
The Administrative Exemption
People can describe their sexuality however they choose. The comedy begins when a private label becomes a ceremonial platform for ranking the other participant beneath them.
“I am straight” stops being a description and becomes an exemption.
He is exempt from being perceived.
Exempt from being questioned.
Exempt from having his desire count.
Exempt from the category of the men he actively sought.
Meanwhile, the bottom is expected to carry the sexual meaning, the social meaning, and the shame for an encounter that required two calendars.
The Rule
Position describes what you prefer to do. It does not change the gender of the person you chose.
The Deeper Cut
The issue is not that every man who has sex with men must choose the same label. The issue is the contempt hidden inside the distinction.
“I am not gay, I only top” often means: I need you to be the gay one so I can enjoy the sex without allowing it to touch my self-image.
That arrangement requires the bottom to become a symbolic hazmat team.
He absorbs the queerness.
He absorbs the femininity.
He absorbs the visibility.
He absorbs whatever shame the other man brought into the room.
The top walks out believing his heterosexuality remained pristine because his penis maintained an approved orientation during business hours.
The bottom did not lure an innocent heterosexual penis into a clerical error.
It arrived with directions.

Your penis did not accidentally file the wrong paperwork.
